Thelonious Monk Born

Born October 10, 1917, Thelonious Monk developed an entirely original approach to jazz piano. His angular melodies and use of dissonance influenced generations of musicians. Compositions like "Round Midnight" and "Straight, No Chaser" are jazz standards.

Jackie Robinson's Final World Series Game

On October 10, 1956, Jackie Robinson played his last game as a Brooklyn Dodger in Game 7 of the World Series against the New York Yankees. He retired from baseball rather than accept a trade.
