November 26, 1883

Sojourner Truth Dies

On November 26, 1883, Sojourner Truth died at her home in Battle Creek, Michigan. Born into slavery as Isabella Baumfree, she escaped to freedom in 1826 and became one of the most powerful voices against slavery and for women's rights. Her famous "Ain't I a Woman?" speech remains one of the most cited speeches in American history.

Tina Turner Born

Born November 26, 1939, Anna Mae Bullock (Tina Turner) overcame personal adversity to become one of the most successful live performers of all time. Her 1984 comeback album "Private Dancer" sold over 20 million copies.
