Sojourner Truth Delivers "Ain't I a Woman" Speech

On May 29, 1851, former enslaved woman Sojourner Truth gave her iconic speech challenging racial and gender inequality. The speech became a cornerstone of both the abolitionist and women's rights movements.

On May 29, 1851, Sojourner Truth spoke at the Women's Convention in Akron, Ohio. Her speech challenged prevailing notions about racial and gender inferiority. Born into slavery as Isabella Baumfree, she became one of the most powerful orators for abolition and women's rights.
