Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Founded

On March 30, 1958, Alvin Ailey founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. His signature work "Revelations" (1960), set to Black spirituals, is one of the most performed and acclaimed works in modern dance history.
