Fisk University Founded

Founded on January 9, 1866, Fisk University was established to educate formerly enslaved people. Its Fisk Jubilee Singers performed for Queen Victoria and raised funds that saved the university. Notable alumni include W.E.B. Du Bois, John Lewis, and Nikki Giovanni.
