Elvis Presley Born

Born January 8, 1935, Elvis Presley built his sound on the music of Black artists including Arthur Crudup, Big Mama Thornton, and Little Richard. While he brought Black music to white audiences, his success highlighted the racial inequities in the music industry where Black originators were often uncredited and underpaid.
