October 6, 1871

Fisk Jubilee Singers First Performance

On October 6, 1871, the Fisk Jubilee Singers gave their first concert. This group of young former slaves toured the United States and Europe, raising money for Fisk University and introducing the world to African American spirituals as a legitimate art form.
