On November 7, 2020, Kamala Harris was elected Vice President of the United States alongside President Joe Biden. She had previously been the first African American and first woman to serve as California's Attorney General, and the second African American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate.
Mary McLeod Bethune Leads Black Cabinet
On November 7, 1936, Mary McLeod Bethune solidified her role as the most prominent African American in the Roosevelt administration after FDR's reelection. As director of the Division of Negro Affairs, she was the first Black woman to head a federal agency and organized the Federal Council on Negro Affairs, known as the Black Cabinet.
