November 15, 1887

Granville T. Woods Patents Multiplex Telegraph

On November 15, 1887, Granville Woods received a patent for his multiplex telegraph system, which allowed trains to communicate with each other and with stations, greatly improving railway safety. He held over 60 patents and was known as the "Black Edison."
