Shirley Chisholm Born

Born on July 30, 1924, Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress in 1968, representing New York's 12th district. In 1972, she became the first Black candidate for a major party's presidential nomination. Her motto was "Unbought and Unbossed."

LeBron James Opens I PROMISE School

On July 30, 2018, LeBron James opened the I PROMISE School in Akron, Ohio, in partnership with Akron Public Schools. The school serves at-risk students with free tuition, meals, bicycles, and guaranteed college scholarships to the University of Akron. It became a model for athlete-led community investment.
