Patricia Bath Patents Laserphaco Probe

On May 17, 1988, Dr. Patricia Bath patented her invention of the Laserphaco Probe for removing cataracts. She was the first African American woman to receive a medical patent and co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness.
