Bayard Rustin Organizes Journey of Reconciliation

On January 11, 1947, Bayard Rustin and 15 other activists, both Black and white, began a two-week bus trip through the upper South to test the 1946 Supreme Court ruling banning segregation in interstate travel. The effort was a forerunner of the 1961 Freedom Rides.
