Born on August 2, 1924, James Baldwin became one of the most eloquent voices on race in America. His novels "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Giovanni's Room" and essays like "The Fire Next Time" explored race, sexuality, and identity with searing honesty and literary brilliance.
