Derek Chauvin Convicted of Murder

On April 20, 2021, a Minneapolis jury found former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. It was one of the few times a police officer was convicted for killing a Black person in the line of duty.

Dorothy Irene Height Dies

On April 20, 2010, Dorothy Height died at 98. She had devoted her life to fighting for civil rights and women's rights, serving as president of the National Council of Negro Women for 40 years and working alongside every major civil rights leader of the 20th century. President Obama eulogized her as the "godmother of the civil rights movement."
