Mahalia Jackson Born

Born October 26, 1911, Mahalia Jackson became the world's most famous gospel singer. She performed at the 1963 March on Washington, where her cry to Martin Luther King Jr. — "Tell them about the dream, Martin!" — prompted King to depart from his prepared remarks and deliver his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
