Dizzy Gillespie Born

Born October 21, 1917, John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie co-created bebop alongside Charlie Parker. His bent trumpet, puffed cheeks, and extraordinary technique made him one of the most recognizable figures in jazz history. He also pioneered Afro-Cuban jazz.
