First African American Army Nurses Arrive Overseas
On May 22, 1944, the first contingent of Black Army nurses arrived in England to serve in WWII. Despite facing discrimination within the military, these women provided critical medical care and helped pave the way for the integration of the U.S. Armed Forces.
