Angelina Grimké Weld Born

Born February 27, 1880, Angelina Weld Grimké was named after her white great-aunt, the abolitionist Angelina Grimké. Her play "Rachel" (1916) was one of the first plays written by an African American to protest racial violence. Her poetry explored themes of love and racial identity.
