Black Panther Film Released

On February 16, 2018, "Black Panther" was released worldwide, grossing over $1.3 billion and becoming a cultural phenomenon. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman, the film presented a vision of an uncolonized African nation and was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning three.

LeVar Burton Born

Born February 16, 1957, LeVar Burton rose to fame portraying Kunta Kinte in the landmark miniseries "Roots" (1977). He later hosted "Reading Rainbow" for 23 years, promoting literacy to millions of children, and played Geordi La Forge in "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
