Frederick Douglass Born

Frederick Douglass was born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in February 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. He escaped slavery and became one of the most prominent abolitionists, orators, and writers in American history, authoring several autobiographies and advocating for civil rights.
