Kenya Gains Independence

On December 12, 1963, Kenya became an independent nation with Jomo Kenyatta as its first prime minister. The Mau Mau uprising of the 1950s had been a crucial factor in the push for independence.

Dillard University Founded

Dillard University was founded on December 12, 1930, through the merger of Straight University and New Orleans University. It became one of the premier HBCUs in the South.
