Rosa Parks Refuses to Give Up Her Seat

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to surrender her seat on a Montgomery city bus. Her act of defiance catalyzed the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a 381-day protest led by a young Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The boycott ended when the Supreme Court ruled that segregation on public buses was unconstitutional.
