August 27, 1963

W.E.B. Du Bois Dies

On August 27, 1963, W.E.B. Du Bois died in Ghana — the eve of the March on Washington. At the march, NAACP leader Roy Wilkins asked the crowd to observe a moment of silence for the man who had spent his life fighting for freedom.
