Mae Jemison Enters Space

On August 12, 1992, Mae Jemison flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, becoming the first African American woman in space. A physician and engineer, Jemison served as a mission specialist on STS-47, conducting experiments in life sciences and materials science during her eight-day mission.
