Jack Johnson Defeats Jim Jeffries

On July 4, 1910, Jack Johnson defeated Jim Jeffries, who had been coaxed out of retirement as the "Great White Hope." Johnson's decisive victory triggered race riots in cities across America, exposing the deep racial tensions of the era.
