Ralph Ellison Publishes Invisible Man

On April 14, 1952, Ralph Ellison published "Invisible Man," a novel about a nameless Black man's experiences with racism and identity in America. The novel won the National Book Award in 1953 and is consistently ranked among the greatest American novels of the 20th century.
