November 29, 1941

Stokely Carmichael Born

On November 29, 1941, Stokely Carmichael was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He became a leading civil rights activist, serving as chairman of SNCC. In 1966, he popularized the phrase "Black Power" during a march in Mississippi. He later changed his name to Kwame Ture and advocated for Pan-Africanism.
