Clarence Thomas Nominated to Supreme Court

On July 1, 1991, President Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. His contentious confirmation hearings, including Anita Hill's testimony about sexual harassment, made the proceedings a national event. He was confirmed by a narrow 52-48 vote.
