Isaac Hayes Born

Born August 20, 1942, Isaac Hayes won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the "Theme from Shaft" (1971), becoming the first African American to win a non-acting Oscar. He was also a successful voice actor, known for the character Chef on "South Park."
